Το Βέλγιο παρέλαβε τα πρώτα του μαχητικά αεροσκάφη F-35A Lightning II στην αεροπορική βάση Florennes, σηματοδοτώντας την έναρξη της εποχής της αεροπορικής ισχύος πέμπτης γενιάς.
Τρία από τα τέσσερα αεροσκάφη έφτασαν με ασφάλεια (ένα παρέμεινε στις Αζόρες λόγω προβλήματος στον κινητήρα).
