Air ambulance with 6 people vanishes from radar off Nantucket, Massachusetts

Canadian-registered Gulfstream G100 air ambulance, call sign HTT104 and tail number C-GRJP, vanished from radio and radar early Saturday, October 3, 2026, while flying from Bermuda to Boston with six people aboard. The U.S. Coast Guard Northeast District is still searching waters off Nantucket; as of Saturday afternoon and evening, no wreckage or survivors had been publicly reported.

The aircraft is operated by Latitude Air Ambulance of Hamilton, Ontario, which flies medical evacuations and repatriations. It left L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda around 11:40–11:41 p.m. Eastern time Friday (about 12:41 a.m. Bermuda time) and was scheduled to land at Boston Logan International Airport around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. On board were two pilots and two medical crew, all Canadian, plus a patient and a relative, both Bermuda nationals. Canada’s transport minister, Steven MacKinnon, confirmed four Canadians were among the six. Names have not been released. Bermuda Premier David Burt said the government was in contact with the families.

The jet was in contact with New York air-traffic controllers when it declared an emergency around 12:46 a.m. Radio recordings captured a controller asking whether the crew was “coming in blind” and confirming an emergency declaration; the pilot’s reply was weak or inaudible. By about 1:12 a.m., Massport Fire Rescue at Logan was told to prepare for an aircraft with an electrical issue expected in 10–15 minutes. Controllers then reported the loss of both radio and radar contact. The FAA issued a search-and-rescue alert notice around 1:20 a.m. and notified the Coast Guard near 2 a.m. Public flight-tracking data showed a steep descent shortly before the signal ended—reports vary from roughly 24,000 feet to about 11,000 feet, or a drop of more than 9,000 feet in about two minutes. An ABC News source said investigators believed the aircraft descended rapidly before hitting the water; authorities have not confirmed a cause.

The Coast Guard search, centered roughly 13 nautical miles south of Nantucket, includes an HC-144 Ocean Sentry and an MH-60 Jayhawk from Air Station Cape Cod, an HC-130 Hercules from Air Station Elizabeth City, a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Brant Point on Nantucket, and the Boston-based fast-response cutter William Sparling. Massport confirmed the plane never arrived at Logan. Latitude’s operations manager, Clarence Togeretz, said the company lost contact around 1:30 a.m. as the flight approached Boston and alerted search-and-rescue authorities. No Americans were reported aboard.

The search remained active through Saturday with no public confirmation of debris or survivors.

Ιδιαίτερη ανησυχία προκαλεί, παράλληλα, μια συνομιλία που καταγράφηκε μεταξύ του πιλότου και ελεγκτή εναέριας κυκλοφορίας.
